I know big companies are all for anti-piracy but think about it wouldnt u like to have a free copy of your favorite movie,
software, song maybe because its too expensive or just because u think information is free for all

Let me tell u my side of the story...

Im from India

And most of the software, movies, music etc from abroad (all foriegn stuff) is sold at the same rate they r sold in their own countries so like when u convert the currency into indian rupees its a really big amount (the same goes for china) and this is why china and india has the world's most piracy. Its simply because we cant afford the high prices.

Secondly for people who can afford it
they simply think information should be free for all Well then they should try open source software or express editions
(like microsoft has come out with Visual basic 2005 Express Edition - A truly great software and many other express editions). As for open source software there are substitute software for most of the paid software for example browsers- Mozilla Firefox is free for the world to download for no cost at all

I think both these two conditions are very viable and the internet should be a free source of information

Just think about the many brilliant people in computers around the world who cant afford original software
are'nt they missing out a fair chance to prove themselves, to contribute to the world.

Well, if there was no piracy only people who could afford original software would be able to show their skills and contribute to the world

So I think when software etc is sold in poorer countries, the companies should not just sell products at the price sold in their own country
For example $1 = Rs41 (41 rupees (indian currency)as at the time of this writing) So if a product is say $100 it would be Rs 4100 here in India thus making the product quite expensive especially when Indians can buy products made in India sold at cheaper prices.

Therefore if foreign companies want to sell their products competitvely in poorer countries they need to reduce prices
thus reducing the need for pirated products. To help reducing their prices they can reduce costs by producing their products
in the country they are selling the products to, thus reducing costs and prices.

They will now have better products at competitive prices and its a win-win situation Reducing Piracy from the root,
protecting hard work and deserving producers and saving profits that get eaten up by piracy.
